Wishlist-Worthy Gemstone Printed Scarves

Apr 26, 2013

I happened upon these printed gemstone silk scarves and had to share them! Owned and operated by author, artist, and photographer Jen Altman, Cisthene is an online store that "honors the art of ancient crafts with modern sensibilities" in their collections of jewelry, bath, beauty, and leather products. Each scarf features an "impressionistic interpretation" of one of Jen's photographs from her book, Gem and Stone: Jewels of Earth, Sea and Sky. I'm used to thinking about minerals and gemstones as components in jewelry designs--small parts of a larger picture. I like the way that Jen has blown up these images to reveal the extraordinary details in each stone; it reminded me that there is so much more to them than usually meets the eye.

Here are a few of my favorite prints (see the whole collection here):

Pyrite
Malachite
Flourite

Happy weekend!

OOOOOH, and I see in my little eye beads applied to these beauties. Not many, but like small clear faceted ones to just emphasize the line of a mineral......OMG, hope they are affordable, I sure see one in my future. DMZ
