The Shifting Feather Trend

Here in the Jewelry Stringing office, we've just begun poring over some of the submissions we've received for the spring 2013 issue. One of the themed sections for this issue is "Coachella Chic," named after the annual music festival that showcases the latest bohemian-chic and indie fashion trends. My favorite Coachella Chic pieces thus far incorporate feathers, which have been a hot trend in jewelry fashion for the past couple of years.

While the feather trend is still hot, we're seeing more of a shift toward jewelry created using metal feathers and feathers mixed with other materials.

This necklace from Sundance is a perfect example, mixing carnelian, glass, and antique trade beads with sterling silver charms and leather cord:

 

These brass feather pendants from The Journey's End on Etsy would make a fantastic boho-chic necklace:

 

The Resin Crafts blog offers a tutorial on how to create this glass-like pendant, using a real feather that has been permanently encased in resin.

 

And I would never have guessed that these "leather" feathers from Etsy artist, Girl on Bike, are actually made from recycled bicycle inner tubes! How very eco-chic!
