Rubber tubing called “spline” is one of my favorite hardware store materials. For one, I made end caps out of pmc and strung 18g wire on them and beaded the rest of the bracelet. I love searching for jewelry applications for hardware and found items.

re: 2 Free and Easy Wire Projects

Leslie,

Love the big hook and eye. Is there any way to make the wire strong enough to actually use it in dressmaking? A couple of these would look marvelous on a jacket. Great projects.

Now that you have brought it to my attention, I can't wait to buy some and see what I can come up with. I like using industrial and unexpected materials like this. I'm loving a box of copper washers and rubber O-rings in various sizes that are cheap from harbor freight. Spline will fit right in to that category.

re: 2 Free and Easy Wire Projects

The caramel swirl bracelet is stunning. If Judith's scuba O rings are black rubber they may be great with this clasp. I have a friend who has a small plane and gives me copper rings from his spark plug replacement. Think copper and about 24 mm? They need to be cleaned up but are also an interesting "hardware" component.

re: 2 Free and Easy Wire Projects

Judith C.
