If I can't bring in at least $2000.00 per weekend show, I don't do that show again. There are plenty of great craft shows that you can do and well your work for reasable prices, don't waste your time of the shows that only take in a couple of hundred dollars. I have placed some of my items on Etsy this year. So far, it wasn't worth the effort I made to do the listing. I'm going to try some art shows this fall.

re: Your First Sale: Reader Stories

I had a name brand jewlery party in my home. When it was over, I showed the consultants some of my own handmade jewelry and one lady bought one then and there. Both of them commisioned two peyote stitch amulet bags. I wasn't even trying to sell anything just wanted to know what they thought about my stuff.

re: Your First Sale: Reader Stories

I paint beads and then string them. I was making them for myself and as gifts, but was interested in seeing if people would buy them. I had my little girl wear one to a regatta party, knowing the design might appeal to this crowd. Sure enough, a woman asked about it and the next thing I knew I was taking an order for one. She later ordered 2 more and sent a friend my way for another! It was quite a thrill.

re: Your First Sale: Reader Stories

I make my jewelry based on my tastes and what I would wear. I typically wear everything as a "walking billboard" and then sell things at craft fairs, bridal shows, and on the internet. I send my mother some pieces as well so she can wear them to her functions as well. Nothing sells better than wearing it yourself!!

re: Your First Sale: Reader Stories

Oops! I had just been beading (never had done it before), and I made this particular pair of earrings to wear with a particular shirt of mine and this woman at the bank bought them right out of my ears, literally! I know that I undercharged her, but what the hay, it was my FIRST SALE!

re: Your First Sale: Reader Stories

My first sale was to a neighbor. I think that table at craft shows ($100.00) is too much for someone just starting out. I went to one that cost $100.00 for a 10'x10' spot & after I deducted that cost I sold $50.00 in jewelry. Another one I went to, same spot fee, I made $450.00.
