I agree with Ldybg2 - the double needle technique is a great way of doing odd count flat peyote.

Barbara Carpenter you can find this method in Bead and Buttons: The Best of Bead & Button Magazine's "Beadwoven Jewelry" (published in 2006)

The method entails a length of beading thread with a needle threaded at each end. One starts out by picking up two seed beads and bringing them to the center of the thread. Then using both needles, pick up and go through another seed bead , this forms a T with the 2 beads on top and the one bead snuggled below them. You alternate by picking up a seed bead on each needle and picking up one seed beed with both needles. Yes it takes a bit of practice but it is a great method to learn. :)

Does anyone remember a peyote stitch bracelet designed from a kimono print?

I t was in BEADWORK or BEAD and BUTTON some years ago, and I believe it was sent in by a reader. There was a picture of the kimono and the bracelet.

I use a piece of soft wire instead of a needle, which I fold at right angles at each end of the row. No sharp points...

I had trouble starting peyote stitch too until Melinda Barta showed me how to do it! I bought the Interweave video of Melinda and peyote and I've been a peyote whiz ever since! And I've thanked Melinda, too. It's really a great video!

please Ldbg2, tell us, what is double needle method? ive been beadweaving for 22 years and havent heard of a double needle method for peyote.

I've been blessed with incredibly small hands, so even working with size 11 cylinders i can generally hold the first few rows flat with my fingers, and still be able to see what i'm stitching. I may just try using the needles on my next project though (still waiting on the beads to come in, and waiting, and waiting), it seems like it might be an easier way to get things flat.
