Celebrate Beading Daily's Birthday With Us!

Aug 1, 2013

Do you remember where you were 6 years ago, in August of 2007? I certainly do: I was five months pregnant with my son, and I was starting to make plans for launching my own jewelry business. Also that summer, I remember the launch of a new online beading community: Beading Daily!

I can hardly believe that Beading Daily turns 6 this month, and I feel so fortunate that I've been able to contribute to this vibrant online community as the Online Editor for the last 2 years! To celebrate, we thought we'd put together a little giveaway for our fabulous readers with (what else?) 6 of our favorite beading resources. Wouldn't you love to add these to your collection of beading books and magazines?

My new favorite beading book is by bead artist Kelly Angeley. Explorations in Beadweaving takes the guesswork out of freeform bead embroidery and bead-weaving techniques and makes them accessible to everyone! What I love most about Kelly's eclectic style is how she is so skilled at taking the essence of a spontaneous moment and capturing it in a meticulous piece of beaded jewelry!
Who doesn't love the beaded jewelry designs of Jean Campbell? We're also giving away a copy of Jean's Bead Beading Workshops: Global Designs DVD. Learn how to make 4 of Jean's best-loved bracelet designs, inspired by jewelry from around the world!
One special issue magazine that I always look forward to is Favorite Bead Stitches. Each year, it's a new collection of timeless and innovative beading projects from some of our favorite bead artists. With a generous sample of projects using our favorite off-loom beading stitches, this is a great way to expand on your skills using your favorite stitch or to learn something new!
Sometimes, you just want to string jewelry. And when you do, there's no better resource than 101 Bracelets, Necklaces, and Earrings for inspiration and instruction in creating easy strung jewelry. With great resource lists and colorful designs, this is one magazine I keep on my desk for the times when I want to do some serious stringing.
Who doesn't love romantic beaded jewelry? Kelly Wiese's A Beaded Romance guides you through creating twenty-six delicate and delectable beaded jewelry designs using seed beads, pearls, and crystals. Add a splash of romance to your favorite outfit with these stunning beaded jewelry projects!
And finally, get the information you need about all of the fabulous new shapes of glass beads out there with Melinda Barta's Beading with Shaped Beads. Whether you like spikes, gumdrops, two-holed seed beads, or Tila beads, you're sure to find some helpful tips and techniques from the editor of Beadwork magazine!

If you'd like to add all 6 of these fabulous beading resources to your collection, here's your chance. Leave a comment on this blog and tell us why you love Beading Daily, and what you'd love to see more of in the coming year! We'll choose one winner at random on Monday, September 2, 2013. Please note: due to international customs regulations we can only ship this prize package to U.S. and Canadian addresses. Prize package will ship at the end of September.

Finally, a big thank-you goes out to all of our readers: you're the true heart and soul of Beading Daily, and we couldn't do it without you!

Bead Happy,

It's hard to say something new that others haven't already said, but I love that they stay up on what's "current" and the newest fads while showing us the "latest and greatest" if you will.  I am always looking for a new idea and there is never a lack of any with these.

Thanks...Keep it coming.  I am a visual person, so a written pattern doesn't do me nearly as good as a step by step visual, so that's what I hope people do.

Beading Daily helped me so much when I was first getting started in beadweaving. The folks in the forums are so helpful and supportive. And I love browsing through the ebooks for inspiration, and to learn new techniques. Beading Daily has been an extremely valuable resource for me, and I hope it continues to help and inspire all of us for a very long time to come!

I love Beading Daily as it has brought me much joy in my life as I began my journey in beading. It has also given me self esteem and a sense of  'belonging'.

As a child I saw the beauty in everything, I wanted to sing, act, put me in front of the camera and I wanted to please and entertain.

My childhood stopped early as instead of enjoying all the beauty I saw in life, I was exposed and lived a very dark few years to abuse.

During that time, I read many, many books, and began to write, and write. I shared with the paper the wonderful beautiful world I see, it was an escape as I no longer felt comfortable with many things or felt I was good enough to share.

My school had two statewide prose and poetry writing assignments that we had to enter, and I at the time just knew of it as homework, until I was announced as a winner in both areas in two different years.

The quiet girl I became spoke because of the guidance and friends I read in the many books that took me away from something that made me feel inadequate .

I never felt creative or artistic, and during some therapy sessions I would have occupational therapy, it wasn't until just recently that I stopped saying "I suck ..I can't" as I was told how calm and peaceful I was during those 30 some sessions.

I am just a beginner, and I cherish people sharing their art, 'their stories", the beauty the see in this world and admire that they share it with us all. I have found much more than words can say in all the books, magazines, forums, blogs and beading daily, I have found a sense of 'belonging' a place where everything is beautiful, you can ask questions and people want to help and don't judge you, but believe in you.

Winning for me was being able to share this much, as I still find myself staying silent or not enrolling in a class quite yet, but I can do it. I will do it.

The books will be a wonderful bonus and be new adventures for me to go on and remind me of all the good in the world.

I'm sorry if I have went on to long and said to much. (2nd guessing myself -you should see me trying to pick out beads/colors!

Happy birthday to you! (and happy birthday to me ;) ) I have 30 more of those years on you, but I have no doubt you will have many more than I .

Thank you for the opportunity and listening (reading)

Shannon Leigh

Also I could use tips with resin projects and maybe combining resin projects with beaded art.

Beading Daily is tremendously important to me.  I live in Detroit, Michigan, where the economy has forced several suburban bead shops to close.  Also, I don't always have access to a car, so I cannot often visit the wonderful shops that do remain.  I must rely more and more on online resources, and I love Beading Daily for the terrific resource that it is.  Although a veteran beader, I'm inspired to try new techniques, work with different materials, and continue to learn and grow.  I look forward to every tidbit of information you offer and each challenge to work in new ways.  Thank you!

I  have been receiving Beading Daily in my email box since the very beginning (6 years?!), and I love it!  I also get the weekly wrap-up version, just in case I missed something.  I have been beading for seventeen years, and consider beading part of who I am.  I make sure to learn something new about beading every day, and Beading Daily definitely has a lot to teach everyone -- from beginners to anyone beading beyond that first irresistible bead.  I love seeing the new techniques as they are introduced in the bead world.  I am especially fond of stories with Jennifer's musings on her own personal experiences with beads.  Congratulations, Beading Daily!

I look forward to seeing and reading about all the creative ways to use beads, wires and found objects.  While at present, my jewelry making skills are VERY rough, my dream is that in a few years, when I am able (I hope) to retire, I will be able to actually read through all of the books and articles that I've collected, and watch all of the videos that I've bookmarked....and then....MAYBE, I will be able to create something that is even half as wonderful as most of the projects that I have seen on this site!

I LOVE sitting and looking through all of the wonderful resources and reading through the blogs that are recommended....I have learned many things from this site and look forward to learning much more!  Thank you for sharing your advice, experiences, and secrets!

I love jewelry and once I discovered the markup cost I decided to learn to make my own. I have now been beading for 30 plus years and never tire of it.  My two favorite mags are Beadwork and Beads and Buttons. Those two magazines have inspired me and made me a better beader.  Beading Daily is great.  I love all the tips you get for making your projects better.  I tell all my friends and others to check out this site. Whether I win or not I think everyone who works behind the scenes to bring us this wonderful site is A #1 on my list.  Keep up the great work.

Beading Daily is a great resource. I inherited several wonderful woven pattern bead  pieces of jewelry from my Grandmother and Great-grandmother. Some of the pieces being very old needed to be repaired. A chance encounter with a stranger wearing a necklace in the daisy stitch lead me to Beading Daily.  A year and a half later she is now a good friend. We have joined with mutual friends to form a beading group  --  most new to the art of beading.  Whenever we want inspiration or need a how-to question answered  discussion turns to the Beading Daily network. Who would have thought that a question about a broken daisy chain necklace and Beading Daily would lead to a supportive group of friends .  Thank you! for introducing me to the world of beading.

I started my jewelry-making journey designing lost-wax pieces for a goldsmith. When another artist asked if I would like some beads, I said 'Sure,' anticipating a couple of glass tubes of seed beads. Imagine my surprise when she brought me TWO of those metal units with the little plastic drawers [the kind that guys use for nuts & bolts out in the garage…] packed solid with every color of the rainbow. Her mother had made beaded flowers in the 1940s and nobody in the family wanted the beads…

Beading Daily has guided me through many a project, thank you very much!

In the future I would like to see more ideas, tips, musings about stringing beads.  (I just don't have the patience required for stitching and weavng.)  I also enjoy posts concerning metal and trends such as steampunk.

Happy Birthday, Thank You, and I love your free ebook downloads.  If there is one thing I have not learned and would like to know, it is how to make sure my clasps do not come off.  I guess the quick answer is I don't have the cord crimped tightly enough, strung back through enough beads, or the dab of glue wasn't enough, but, no matter what I try, this is my single biggest problem.   I would like to know they aren't coming off without having to wear the item for a year.

I am new to jewelry making and beading and I've been buying books and reading everything I can find on the internet. I really look forward to my Beading Daily and Jewelry Making Daily newsletters. I have learned more from the newsletters than ANYTHING else I have read!! I save them all for future reference. Thank you all so very much for the generous help!!! Sincerely, Carol

I love learning new methods and seeing the new things others are doing with beads.  Beading Daily provides me with inspiration and help with techniques I have not tried.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE BEADING DAILY. It's my favorite thing to read since it obviously has great information and techniques I love to try!

I am disabled and at home all the time so I need something to keep me occupied.  Beading Daily does the trick.  I have severe Rhuematoid Arthritus in my lower extremities but am fortunate that my hands and fingers are still nimble enough to do beading, etc.

I really look forward to receiving Beading Daily in my inbox.  I especially love all the free projects that teaches me knew thing and keeps me happy and busy.

Thanks BEADING DAILY  for all you do to keep us all entertained!!!!!!
