It's Time to Think About Your Holiday Bead Crafts!

Nov 14, 2012

Holidays are always made better with the addition of one of my favorite things -- beads! What better way to celebrate the winter holidays than sharing the love with a few beautiful and joyful bead crafts? Every year, holiday time gives me a reason to reflect on how thankful I am for what I have, and of course, that includes my beads.

For my non-beading friends, making a couple of sweet little holiday bead crafts to include with their holiday gifts (or as their holiday gifts!) is a fun way to share my passion with them. Here are four ways you can include some bead crafts in your holiday activities this year:

bead-crafts Package toppers. You can add an extra special touch to any holiday gift with the addition of a fun little beaded package topper. I love making a batch of Jean Campbell's Snowman Ornament bead craft because even after the gift has been opened, the recipient has this lovely little snowman to hang in their window all winter long.
bead-craft Holiday ornaments. Holiday bead crafts just wouldn't be the same without a couple of classic beaded ornament projects! My mom used t make beautiful crocheted ornament covers for those glass ball ornaments, and while I'm not exactly skilled with a crochet hook, no holiday season around my house is complete before I finish at least two beaded ornament covers, like this Holiday Carol Ornament by Robin Cowart.
bead-crafts Holiday home decor. If you're up for a challenge, why not try something different when you decorate the inside of your home this year? I've started working on David Farnsworth's Beaded Village bead sculptures to use as the centerpiece for our holiday table. With a little bit of fake snow and some fresh evergreens from our backyard, these will make a wonderful holiday bead craft that I can use year after year.
bead-crafts Beaded holiday jewelry. Well, of course beaded holiday jewelry counts as a bead craft! Whether it's to accent your new holiday party outfit or to give as a gift to a treasured friend, making new beaded jewelry is one of my favorite things about the holiday season. If you need to make a special gift for someone this holiday, Nancy Sathre-Vogel's Sumptuous Spiral looks great in any color combination.

Make sure you check out Beading Daily's Pinterest page for more great holiday bead craft project ideas! And just in time for the holidays, all eProjects are on sale in the Beading Daily Shop. Until November 16 at 12:00 midnight CST, you can save big while you stock up on your favorite holiday bead craft projects. And why not treat yourself to a new beading project or two while you're at it?

Do you have any favorite holiday traditions that involve beads? Now that my son is getting a little older, we're planning to do a lot of beading during the holidays, including making long strands of beads to wrap around our Christmas tree. Share your favorite beady holiday traditions and leave a comment here on the Beading Daily blog!

Bead Happy,

Jennifer

Robin's Holiday Carol Ornament looks very elegant!  And the snowman is really cute - I could see that being a hit with the kids.

I spend much of the time leading up to the holiday season making beaded snowflakes.     They stitch up fast and have so many possible variations that I never get bored.  And I've never had anyone look disappointed to receive them - even the guys.

I give them away as hostess gifts and bring them to parties for gift exchanges.  They make great earring sets and pendants, too.  I've used them as gift toppers, and as gifts themselves, and I use them to decorate my Christmas tree; they are especially pretty on the miniature, table top trees with lots of white, twinkling lights.

For the past couple of years I've also taught my snowflakes at my local beading store, Fusion Beads, and I've added my instructions as a PDF handout to my Etsy shop:

This year, I added complete kits, too.  So far this year, I've made half a dozen, and am just getting started.
