My Top Five Picks for Great Earring Making Resources!

Jun 29, 2012

Beaded necklaces are usually my first choice when designing beaded jewelry, but in the winter, I find myself hunting for some great beaded earrings to wear with my favorite cozy sweaters and turtleneck shirts. I find myself designing beaded earrings more and more often these days, since making a pair of beaded earrings is usually a lot faster than making a necklace or a bracelet. And of course, I don't want to make just any beaded earrings -- they have to be real knockouts!

You can use just about any jewelry making technique you'd like for earring making. Earring making can be as simple as artfully stringing some beads on a head pin and making a wrapped loop at the top, or you can get into wire wrapping, mixed media techniques like resin and felting, and of course, you can always make fabulous beaded earrings with off-loom bead-weaving techniques.

This book is a classic. Beadwork Creates Earrings, edited by Jean Campbell, was one of the first earring making books I ever bought. I didn't know a lot about jewelry making, but even with my basic jewelry making skills, I was able to create most of the designs in this book. Some things never go out of style, and the earring making projects in this book definitely fall under that category!

earring-projects I know I've talked about 101 Wire Earrings by Denise Peck before, but I can't help it. Making wire jewelry wasn't nearly as scary as I had thought, thanks to the projects and instructions in this book. Hello, I love the earrings on the front cover of "Beadwork Creates Earrings"!

Ive looked all over to find the long yellow (or other colors) of this bead on the internet.  I cannot find it anywhere.  Do you know where I can find this bead or something simular?  thank you, Carol

We also love making earrings with unconventional materials and we started a business called Spellbound Beads (www.spellboundbeads.com).  We use the pages of discarded books for our beads and make bracelets, pendants and earrings.  Thanks for showing so many of the other great ideas out there!
