Finally! The weather has snapped from a season of sweltering 90s to fall 60s-70s with the cool evenings in the 50s. I'm sorry you sun bunnies but I must confess, I love winter. I love snow; I love sipping hot cocoa on a silent moonlight walk crunching the snow. I love running around outside the house during the first snow. I'm originally from Minnesota, and those Norwegians swear you get fewer colds with that winter ritual. I'm not so sure if it's actually the ritual, or the fact that your body is half frozen all through the long, frigid winters, but something sure kills off the germs, as I was rarely sick.

Another fall/winter ritual I've had since I was a child is making holiday gifts for my family and BFFs (Best Friend Forever). I knew it was time for the much anticipated holiday season when Mom took me to the coolest craft shop in Hopkins, Minnesota. It smelled like pine, cinnamon candles, and hot glue- the owner hot glued everything from rhinestones, to apron hems. This privately owned big old red barnlike house was filled with miniature doll furniture, crafting supplies, beads, paints, and everything in between. Gosh, I loved that place, and every whiff of pine brings me back there! I bet you have a fave early memory of childhood artistry stuffed in the back files of your noggin as well.

Give the gift that keeps on givinghandcrafted jewelry

Well, my beady peeps, it's that time again. Time to start making our holiday gifts. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or something else, the common thread is that we all celebrate our loved ones. It's important to stop for a moment during this busy season to honor, bless, and love them. And what better way than by sharing our beading obsession, oops, I mean passion, with our loved ones.

So I've selected a few of my favorite eProjects from the store to share with you (they're all 20% off for Beading Daily readers). I'm not sure which project I'll start with, but it's time to start! Let's start one together. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Pretty Presents

Who doesn't enjoy a present or two, or three? This colorful charm bracelet is made from wire and furnace-glass cube beads. Make some earrings to match and hang them off the rim of a wine glass for your extra-special friends.

Blooming Accents

How fun to use colored wire, beads, and crystals for this elegant hair jewelry. You could add buttons or flowers to give even more dimension to your piece. It's quick and easy. Make a bunch and let your teens pick out their faves.

Holiday Carol Ornament

Netting and loop fringe surround this traditional holiday ornament. The color variations are endless with bugle and seed beads. Use up your seed-bead stash on this fun project.

Double Mint Spiral

This beaded spiral rope is simple with loops of beads surrounding a single beaded core. These candy canes would be great to decorate everyone's Christmas tree.

Holiday Swirl

Learn the spiral stitch to make these beauties with a pretty ribbon closure. The image shown here is traditional red and green (great for Auntie Viola), but make mom's bracelet with her fave colors.  Oh, and don't forget to make a few extra for your co-workers!

Snowman

One of the best things about snowmen, is that you can wear them all winter long. This cute little guy would be fun to make with your kids. You can whip up the simple peyote-stitch scarf, and they could help with everything else. Grandma might do flips over this one! (Careful of her back.)

Horn of Plenty Wireworked Necklace

Use silver wire crochet embellished with vegetable beads to create this lovely fall pendant. The instructions also include how to make the crochet chain, or you can slip the pendant onto a ready-made chain. You could also attach the pendant to napkin rings for great Thanksgiving dinner table decorations.

Christmas Trees

Make these adorable lampworked Christmas trees in any size for earrings, necklaces, tree ornaments, or to decorate holiday packages. Great teachers' gifts!

Flower Pins

There's always someone who surprises you with a gift, and they aren't on your list! Have a handful of these around for that situation. Easy- to-make wire and seed-bead pins in every color are perfect for all year-round, but particularly holiday gift giving.

Scheherazade Necklace

And don't forget about yourself. This peyote stitched necklace will certainly ring in your new year. The perfect combination for your holiday party celebrating, create this richly textured triangle seed bead and pearl mix guaranteeing that all eyes will be on you, my dear. Happy New Year!

Only a few weeks until the holiday season frenzy is upon us. It seems to fall right into our laps every year and we're NEVER ready for it (or is it just me)?
