Choose the Bead Star Winners: Vote Now!

Choose the Bead Star Winners

The wait is over--the gallery of Bead Star finalists is now available!

I got the inside scoop on the contest from Danielle Fox, editor of Bead Star: "We were blown away by the number of entries into our contest—we received over 1,500 eligible submissions! You can imagine, then, how hard it was for me and the other editors to select only 180 of them (twenty in each of the nine categories). It was so much fun to look through all the entries, and what we've come up with, I believe, is the best of the best, the crème de la crème. Now it's time to pass the fun—and the responsibility—on to you, our Beading Daily family! YOU will pick the next bead stars!"

Here’s what you do: To cast your vote, click through the voting survey pages at and choose your one favorite entry in each category. The program will guide you through the selection process for all nine categories. Please note that your votes will not be submitted until you click "done." Vote only once, please, from only one e-mail address.

The five entries in each category that receive the most votes from members of Beading Daily will be named as first place, second place, third place, and two honorable-mention winners. The grand-prize sponsor will choose one of the nine first-place winners as the grand-prize winner. All entrants will be notified of their status via e-mail by June 20. Winners will be announced in Bead Star magazine, available on newsstands worldwide at the end of December 2008. This issue will also contain details about next year’s Bead Star contest.

Thanks to all our contest sponsors for making this contest possible!

Is Bead Star a whole new magazine or special issue? Any idea if they'll do something like this again next year? I would have loved to participate in the novice-friendly competition since I've never entered anything like that before, but I was in the process of moving & changing jobs in March/April. :)

Perhaps you could write a post about how one FINDS contests to enter! Where do newbies go to take a shot at getting an idea published for 30 seconds of fame? :)

I hope the votes register according to the identifying number of the photos as displayed on the screen, because the jpeg numbers often differ.  It would be an injustice to have a vote for #10 -- corresponding jpeg #09 -- go to #9 instead of #10.  How do these surveys work, actually?

I have one comment/request.   In these days of having to watch your P's and Q's (pennies & quarters) I would like to see the cost of books/magazines listed.  I hesitate to order because I don't know the price.

That was SO HARD. I wish we could have picked our top three, although sometimes even that would have been hard! It was great to see designs that showed real creativity in response to the rules - where just they had come up with graceful, original ideas rather than just taking one technique and embellishing it five times past what looks good.

Sometimes I might have opted for a different design if I'd known a little more about the materials used, and sometimes a better picture would have been nice.

Great idea, and good luck to all the finalists!

I was lucky enough to have one of my submissions make a finalist category and I have voted, but I wanted to go back in to just view the submissions again rather than vote again.  It won't let me and just says I've already voted.  I know that; I just wanted to peek.  Is that allowed on a different page?

I'd like to encourage everyone to enter this contest next year. You win just by entering. I created a few pieces for this contest that I never would have conceived of otherwise, and although they did not get chosen, I am much better off for creating them, they are beyond what I would have normally done. On the flip side, one of my best-selling styles (very unique to me) did get selected. Stretch yourself and enter!!!

Picking the best of each category was tough - so many wonderful designs - a lot of originality. After I did the first 3 categories I had set up my own judging standards which made the judging a little easier as I moved through the remaining ones.

And seeing all these ideas was very educational. I saved the jpgs from a few designs to use for future inspiration - but hey everyone - never copy these designs bead for bead - not fair. Use it to inspire your own.

Where are the rules for the current Bead Star contest?  Your site states full rules will be available next week but that was last week ago?  What is going on ?
