Thankfully, this month's box o' beads from A Grain of Sand's Bead Hoard Curiosities Club didn't send beads flying to every corner of the room when I opened it, but it did spark a whole new set of ideas for beaded jewelry projects!
|Just a sample of some of the amazing vintage beads in this month's Curiosities Club shipment!
The first thing that took my breath away was the large bag of huge, vintage sea urchin spines. When I first started beading, my local bead store carried these in a much smaller size, and I added them to almost every peyote stitch amulet bag that I made in those early days. These lovely, organic beads are going to rock some wild beaded cuff bracelet that I haven't quite finished yet, but that I will find an excuse to wear every single day.
A small cardboard box caught my eye in this month's shipment, and when I opened it, I discovered a huge wad of silver-colored chains, complete with spring ring clasps. As soon as I saw them, I wanted to pair them with the creamy Lucite beads in this month's box. They worked together wonderfully to make a very modern necklace with a fabulous vintage feel!
Other fabulous finds in this month's box of vintage bead treasures were some cat's eye cabochons; seed beads and bugle beads; a beautiful faceted glass stone in a deep blue color; faceted white glass drops; a pair of vintage metal leaves (perfect for painting with my wonderful Vintaj patina metal paints!); and a small bag of black, Czech tin cut crystal beads. Also, exclusive to the club members for the month of May were a pair of drilled Bakelite dangles. Suzanne had these olive green beauties drilled and a small eye pin attached to create these just for Bead Hoard Curiosities Club members! So cool!
