Create Shimmery Faux Gemstones in Bezeled Settings

One of my favorite things about my job is being exposed to so many talented jewelry artists. Sure, attending bead shows and drafting themes for the magazine is fun. But reviewing submissions–now that’s a real treat! Unwrapping all of the beautiful jewelry that comes into our offices in Colorado. . .well, it’s almost like Christmas around here every few weeks!

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting one of our longtime contributors–and uber-talented jewelry artist–Erin Prais-Hintz several weeks ago when she came to film a series of how-to videos for Craft Daily. And I was doubly fortunate to sit in the studio while Erin filmed “Flashes of Brilliance,” where she showed how to create gorgeous faux gemstones in bezel settings using crushed beads and stones, paint, pigment powder, glitter, and mica flakes–all things that are easy to find at your local craft store.

During filming, I got a refresher course on the different types of resin, and was introduced to one I’ve never heard of that is used in the surfboard industry. Yes, you read that correctly–s u r f b o a r d. Super cool! And Erin shared her unusual technique for crushing stones and beads using materials we picked up at the local hardware store the day before! Curious? Download your own copy of “Flashes of Brilliance” today at InterweaveStore.com or CraftDaily.com.

And while you’re perusing the Interweave Store, be sure to check out the “12 Days of Deals,” going on now through December 19th. Today’s deal–overstock kits at great prices. And keep checking back for deals on so many great things for that crafty friend on your gift list, or a nice little something for yourself!

I hear the Vineyard Necklace Bead Kit is included in today’s deal, in case you’re looking for supplies to make a beautiful necklace to go with your New Year’s Eve outfit, or a gorgeous handmade gift for your mom, sister, or best friend!

Happy beading,

Debbie Blair, Editor
